DEGITALDEVS Wins Best Jewellery Retail Website Development in Sri Lanka at GBE Awards 2026

"I actually started out as a freelance software developer. As I worked with different clients, the positive feedback I received made me realise that this was something I genuinely enjoyed doing. But over time, I wanted to do more than just work on individual projects. I wanted to build something of my own that could grow, help businesses, and hopefully make a positive impact on Sri Lanka as well.

I started DEGITALDEVS when I was 22, while studying Computer Science at NSBM. I still remember how my best friend supported me in the early days by buying my first server without me even asking. That meant a lot to me because, at that point, I was just starting out and had a big vision but very little to work with. Getting our first client was another big moment. They trusted us with their project, and seeing them happy with the result gave me more confidence to keep going."

"The project we're especially proud of is the website we built for Monarch Gem & Jewellers. Since it's a jewellery brand, we wanted the website to feel premium and elegant, but it also had to work well for customers and the business itself.

We built the site using WordPress and WooCommerce, then added custom features using PHP, CSS, and JavaScript. For example, we implemented automatic currency switching and specific gold-rate disclaimers, along with easy ways for customers to enquire about products. What makes this project special to me is that we were able to deliver those features without relying on an expensive collection of paid tools. Winning the Best Jewellery Retail Website award at GBE Awards 2026 was a proud moment for us. It showed us that even as a growing company from Sri Lanka, we can produce work that earns recognition."

"When we first came across Monarch Gem & Jewellers, they already had more than 50 five-star reviews in a relatively short time, which showed that customers appreciated the business. However, they were operating through their physical store in Kandy and weren't making any online sales at the time.

We saw an opportunity to help them reach people beyond their physical location. So, we built an e-commerce website where customers could discover the business through Google, browse their jewellery collections, check product details and prices, and contact the team about pieces they were interested in. The idea was to give the business a proper online presence that worked alongside the physical store. Seeing that website go on to win Best Jewellery Retail Website at GBE Awards 2026 made the project even more special for us."

"Winning the Best Jewellery Retail Website award at GBE Awards 2026 honestly means a lot to me. I started DEGITALDEVS from scratch while I was still a university student, so seeing something I built grow to this point is a very special feeling. It gives me confidence that we're moving in the right direction and motivates me to aim higher.

I also know I didn't get here entirely on my own. My parents, my sister, and my relatives have all played a part in shaping who I am. My girlfriend, Thivina Rammith, has also been a great source of support. And I'll always be grateful to my best friend for believing in me during those early days. Most importantly, I'm thankful to God for bringing the right people and opportunities into my life."

"Right now, one of my biggest goals is to take DEGITALDEVS beyond Sri Lanka and work with more international clients. At the same time, I want us to build relationships with larger businesses here and take on more challenging projects, especially in software development, AI, and cloud technologies.

I don't want DEGITALDEVS to remain focused on just one type of service. In the long run, I'd love to build our own products and technology that solve real problems and can be used by people around the world. I also want to grow the company into a place where talented people can build their careers and contribute to something bigger. I'm ambitious about where DEGITALDEVS can go, and my goal is to build a technology company from Sri Lanka that can earn recognition internationally through the quality of its work."
